We have for sale LIVE DAPHNIA starter cultures. You've read about them online and you can buy the frozen ones in decent pet shops but have you seen ACTUAL live cultures for sale?
Daphnia are a great live food for all tropical fish and are far superior to brine shrimp as they stay alive in the fresh water until they are eaten. They also readily breed and require little to no care after a colony is established.
They also don't need to be hatched in saltwater, so no more messy jars like brineshrimp!
$15 gets you a starter culture of approximately 100 + live daphnia (Teaspoon)
$25 gets you a starter culture of approximately 300 + live daphnia (Tablespoon)
All you need is a bucket of green water and some sunshine.... And the rest will take care of itself! They are prolific breeders, just harvest them as required (freeze excess) and you'll have an endless supply. Harvesting excess is important as it maintains the health of the culture.
If you have an outdoor pond, 'seed' it by adding some daphnia and they will breed for you year round. If the pond dries out, simply refill it with water and a new daphnia culture will emerge from eggs that have been in diapause (waiting for water before hatching).
One starter is all you need for endless FREE live food for your aquariums.
Another great thing about daphnia is that they can be added to fry tanks, where they will continue to reproduce. This gives your fry an endless supply of live food, which, in turn, increases the growth rate and health of fry. The newly hatched daphnia are the perfect size for all fry types from bettas through to Angels, gouramies and even axolotls.
We have limited cultures available for purchase (more coming when our breeding cultures have replenished). The last time we offered these for sale on Australialisted they sold out within the first 3 days.
